Prerequisite

It is strongly recommended to be oriented to the Naturally Arising Practice Method before beginning this class series. If you are new to this practice method, you are encouraged to learn and practice with these teaching pages and/or enroll in the Intro to the Naturally Arising Practice Method Class Series.

It is also recommended to be oriented to Alex’s View to Perception teachings, which introduce practitioners to a cognitive science-informed understanding of the Naturally Arising Practice Method.

Description

Once we understand how motives can change, how do we continue to act without becoming defined by actions? This class series investigates action amidst ordinary life. We will inquire into how it is possible to recognize a motive clearly in meditation and still lose the thread while working, caregiving, leading, advocating or simply living in a complex world. This class series will draw upon understandings from both Dharma and contemporary science. The emphasis is not on perfect action, but on recognizing how we act and how action can reinforce old, limited conditioning or open new possibilities for freedom.

This series is designed for both established practitioners and newcomers curious about where contemplative practice and modern science meet.
