Description

“Of course we can always imagine more perfect conditions, how it should be ideally, how everyone should behave. But it is not our task to create an ideal. It’s our task to see how it is, and to learn from the world as it is. For the awakening of the heart, conditions are always good enough.”

— Ajahn Sumedho

Prerequisite: One week-long Nine Bodies Insight Retreat

Recognition is a key empowerment. Recognition is also a facility of mind that can be known in of itself, not dependent on what is recognized. Therefore we can enhance our capacity for recognition and also utilize it for calming the mind and not getting lost in story. When we recognize what is true in a moment of being aligned and available, our choices are guided by wisdom and compassion as well as creativity and authenticity. We are able to recognize what is suffering and non-suffering, realize we have choice, and resolve to choose non-suffering—and our experience of the very nature of this realm changes.

This retreat is for practitioners already familiar with Nine Bodies Insight, including each of the Bodies’ primary characteristics and how to access them, and also familiar with Insight Meditation, including how to work with the hindrances and how to direct and sustain attention. The practices and teachings offered on this retreat will build from these foundations.

The retreat includes two detailed guided meditations per day, teaching sessions, and cohort (small group) practice meetings. Please plan to attend all of these sessions (listed in bold below) due to our emphasis on learning in community and the progressive nature of these teachings.

The small group cohort meetings will be either Sun/Tues/Thurs OR Mon/Wed/Fri at the same time of day – either 12:30 or 2:00 PT (note: we have shifted the times earlier than on previous retreats). Phillip will not be leading cohort groups, however he will be offering guided meditations and teachings every day.

The retreat is not recommended for those experiencing acute grief or other strong mental challenges.

This retreat is not a training to teach; attending this retreat does not in any way authorize teaching the Nine Bodies Insight practice method.
