Description
“We are capable of being mindful of and exploring many dimensions of awareness. And we are capable of direct knowing in ways we have hardly touched upon previously. The teachings of the Nine Bodies can provide the imaginative, creative framework for us to discover and develop these capabilities.”
— Phillip Moffitt in his book “Awakening through the Nine Bodies”
This program will utilize the Knowing Capacities (Nine Bodies) to enhance and empower our direct investigation of awareness.
The Knowing Capacities offer a practical, experiential map of consciousness. Rooted in the ancient Indian teaching of the Three Levels of Being—Manifest, Subtle, and Causal—this framework refines and expands that model into nine distinct ways that consciousness functions. In the awareness teachings, we explore awareness not simply as the faculty that knows experience, but as experience itself. As practitioners develop stability and inward staying, awareness becomes a ground from which we can meet each moment without needing to manage or improve it. Awareness is revealed as the common ground that underlies all of the Knowing Capacities.
This program is designed for two kinds of practitioners: those already familiar with awareness practices who are looking to deepen their understanding through the Knowing Capacities, and those familiar with the Knowing Capacities teachings who wish to integrate a more sustained exploration of awareness into this framework.
This program is set to follow the Exploring Awareness: A Retreat for Experienced Practitioners residential retreat at Spirit Rock (June 7–16); however, participation in that retreat is not required. All members of our community who meet the prerequisite and feel drawn to this form of intensive practice are warmly welcome to join us.
Schedule
What Is a Flexible Practice Intensive?
We call this a Flexible Practice Intensive because it pairs two things: an invitation to practice with real intention and continuity over 10 days, and the flexibility to do so in whatever way your life allows. Each day includes guided meditations, optional drop-in practice support meetings, and silent morning meditations and silent evening Candlelight meditations. You may engage with all of it, or you may engage with what you can. Everything is recorded and available. The Dharma Ground Temple Hall (online) is always open for silent practice in community.
Model of Mutual Support
This program is offered in the Buddhist tradition of dāna, which means freely giving. When you register, you will see donation options ranging from $75 - $750. However, you are welcome to offer any amount you wish below or above this range. Finances need not be a barrier to participation. Any offering is gratefully accepted, tax-deductible, and supports both the teachers and Dharma Ground.
